Providing respite care and support for children with special needs and their families
The Ashdown Club for Children with Special Needs offers stimulating, fun sessions for more than 60 local children and gives their carers a chance to take a break.
The service is based at the specially equipped Ashdown Centre, in the middle of Worthing, which hosts regular Saturday and school holiday sessions for 5-12 year olds.
Our highly trained and experienced staff, including a paediatric nurse, provide a caring and stimulating environment for children with a wide range of often profound physical and learning disabilities. These include Cerebral Palsy, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Downs Syndrome and children on the Autistic spectrum.
For young people with special needs, between the ages of 12 and 18, the service runs a weekly youth club on Wednesday evenings. The club programme is chosen by the young people and often includes outings, discos, film nights and buying & cooking the supper evenings!
The staff team is supported by a small number of volunteers. If you are interested in such rewarding volunteer work please do get in touch.
