Our Time Out and About service continues to give carers and the people they care for valuable opportunities to spend precious quality time together on outings. 84 couples used the service regularly and over 50% of these service users are over 75 years of age.
A team of regular support workers and drivers host the outings and are key to their success. The familiarity of a regular team means they can build up a trust with service users and can signpost them to other beneficial services.
Carers value the mutual support gained during the outings and the opportunities to share experiences and information with people in similar circumstances, helping to dispel feelings of isolation.
Outings this year have included the first evening outing to see Katherine Jenkins in concert at the Brighton centre, the International Show Jumping at Hickstead, the Royal Marine Museum at Southsea and the Spinnaker Tower, Portsmouth.
Comments from the first evening outing included ‘Seeing Katherine Jenkins was so exciting. We don’t get out in the evening anymore, it felt so safe going out with TOAA. We felt young again!’
