The sun shone all day for golfers participating in Guild Care's 19th Annual Golf Challenge at Worthing Golf Club on Friday 18th June.Twenty three teams entered from the local business community, with all proceeds going to Guild Care Healthy Living Programme Appeal for older people and carers. The Golf Challenge was started by Worthing Mayor Ann Sayers with Guild Care Chief Executive Suzanne Millard. The day was organised by Peter Kennard one of Guild Care Trustees and Vernon Cook a keen supporter of the charity and professional caddie.
After an exciting day's golf, players enjoyed a sit-down dinner and an auction to boost funds. Suzanne Millard said 'We owe a big thank you to our sponsors who helped make our 19th Golf Challenge such a great success and particularly to Peter Kennard and Vernon Cook for their enthusiasm, hard work and amazing auction items from the PGA Tour. It was a super event and everyone at Guild Care appreciates the support we receive from local businesses and volunteers. Thanks to everyone who was involved for their time and generosity. The money raised will be used to make a real difference to lives of older people and carers in and around Worthing.'Congratulations to the winning team, "Equiniti, who after many years of trying won the challenge for the first time. Their team, aptly nicknamed the Dark Horses, beat the Halford Jarvis team with a combined score of 22 under par around Worthing's testing lower course.

Peter Kennard said 'We hope to have raised in excess of £5,000 with much of this from the auction, which included generous donations from professional golfers Robert Karlson and David Howell and former Worthing professional, Gary Evans. Huge thanks to Vernon Cook who, through his work as caddie on the PGA European Tour, provided all of the team prizes as well as many of the auction items.
The 2011 Golf Challenge will be on Friday 17 June - our 20th so please put a note in your diaries.
