Tracey Wadey, Nursing Care Practice Advisor for Guild Care, spent a few hours at each of their four care homes in February, explaining the importance of infection control to staff, residents and relatives.
Tracey handed out as range of leaflets and demonstrated how easily bugs could be spread with the use of a lightbox. The idea of the lightbox was to show people how easy it was to spread infections if hands were not washed correctly.
Guild Care has recently produced their own Infection Control leaflet which explains to residents, service users and relatives the importance of minimizing the risk of spreading infection. It includes hand hygiene, use of gloves and aprons, keeping a clean environment and the importance of not visiting homes if you are feeling unwell.
Home Care staff will be given the same information over the next few weeks and the 'Beat the Bugs' leaflets are available across Guild Care services.
