Celebrating 35 years of caring with Guild Care

20-Apr-2011

Gerry OborneResidents and staff turned out to celebrate Care Assistant Gerry Oborne’s 35 years of employment with Guild Care at their Caer Gwent home in Downview Road, Worthing.

Gerry started work for the charity on 14 April 1976 (aged 33) at their Ashmount home, also in Worthing. The charity was then known as the Worthing Guild for Voluntary Service. Over her years with the organisation she also worked at Fraser Lodge (now Linfield) and Caer Gwent where she consistently works 3 nights every week. Cherry Cooper, a resident said ‘Gerry is a one-off, we will never get another like her.’

Suzanne Millard, Chief Executive said ‘Gerry is a really well respected member of the team and her loyalty and dedication to the organisation is an incredible achievement and can only be attributed to her love of the job and the residents she cares for. We are really privileged to employ people like Gerry and with 35 years service she is our longest serving employee.’

Gerry who is not used to all the attention said ‘I’ve always had a caring personality. I really enjoy the job and treat everyone as family. Being a Care Assistant allowed me to be flexible with my shifts when my children were growing up and I hope to carry on working for many more years.’

Gerry was presented with a huge bouquet of flowers and a cake and residents toasted her health. Residents Pearl Burton and Rose Tuffell, said ‘She is a wonderful carer. It’s always great to see her as she has a lovely personality.’
