Guild Care is continually fundraising for this important service as it is a lifeline for many families. Esther Jury, mother of four with two children on the autistic spectrum said ‘
My son has been going to Ashdown for 18 months and loves it. He has made some good friends, and it gives him the opportunity to go out on outings with these friends. The sibling club has also helped my family as it enables some much needed fun, and a break from the mayhem at home for my eldest son, who can meet up and make new friends with children that have a similar family background and issues. The huge benefit for me, is the respite that it gives me, knowing that my children are in safe and knowledgeable hands, and having fun at the same time.’
Ben Salter said ‘the club provides us as parents with the opportunity to do the things that are easily taken for granted; shopping, reading a paper, even the odd bit of DIY. The staff are amazing with the children and provide a warm and fun environment. It is a great comfort to know that we can have a few hours off and be confident that Reuben is not only safe and comfortable but is having a great time with people who care and understand him and his needs.’
It is always difficult to fully cover the costs involved with helping children with disabilities. To run the service a children’s nurse is needed for some sessions and all the staff and volunteers have to undergo special training. Activities such as music therapy and summer events can be funded through different schemes but it is the general day-to-day running costs that often cannot be covered by a grant.
The mini collection boxes are designed to collect small change and each box can contain up to £5 of small coins. They are available to pick up at all Guild Care Charity shops and by phoning the fundraising team on 01903 528630 or email: fundraising@guildcare.org
