Guild Care organised a Falls Prevention Day at the Lovett Centre in Goring on 24 February. This lively event highlighted the type of things that can create falls from sloppy slippers, to wet floors and failing to have regular eyesight tests.
A fall can be devastating for an older person and can lead to isolation through loss of confidence. Representatives from the Hospital Falls Team, Red Assure, Age Concern’s Handy Van, 4Sight, Neighbourhood Care Alliance, Community Partnership Team and local Health Trainers gave advice and demonstrated equipment.
Visitors enjoyed free taster exercise sessions, a free slipper check and complimentary pairs of slippers plus a triple interactive performance. Michelle McCaffrey, the charity’s Session Leader and Beverley McLeod, a Community Link Worker performed three scenarios on how easy it is slip over.
A second Falls Prevention Day will be held at the Healthy Living Centre, Methold House on June 25 during national Falls Awareness Week.
