On what would have been the eve of John Lennon's 70th birthday, the Last Resort Private Members Club in Worthing, paid homage to the Beatles with their Sgt Peppers Last Resort Club Band in aid of the Ashdown Club for children with special needs. The music was provided by Mike Short and his acoustic guitar, performing some classic songs from the last 50 years including Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, She's Leaving Home and A Day in the Life.
The fundraising was in two stages. Firstly members of the Last Resort paid to have their own photographs replace the 70 original celebrities on the Sgt Pepper album cover and a special print was produced and unveiled on the night. It has taken pride of place on the wall of the club.
There was also a raffle on the evening with wonderful prizes provided by generous business in Worthing - Beales, Boots, the Proto Restaruant Group, the Rose and Crown, Montagues, OM Taste of Nepal, H D Tribe, Shannons as well as the Last Resort and personal contributions from Tony Hills and Tony Hart.
Suzanne Millard, Chief Executive of Guild Care which runs the Ashdown Club said 'Mike put on a wonderful show and we are very grateful to members of the Last Resort for raising over £700 for our special needs club for children.'
