Short breaks for 5-12 year olds

Our short breaks on Saturdays and school holidays are for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Down's Syndrome and other special needs.

The Ashdown Centre is a safe, stimulating and fun environment with a high ratio of caring, skilled and dedicated staff and one-to-one supervision if required.

Regular breaks for at least 6 hours are offered each month for local families. Our only criterion is that we can meet each child's needs while they are in our care.

A range of structured activities is always available including creative play, arts and crafts, books and learning toys, dressing up and role play, games and a home corner. Our sensory room instils feelings of calm and relaxation with soothing lights, bubbles and music.

Our school holiday sessions offer full day themed events, including outings and activities. These are booked in advance and on a first come, first served basis.

Families are eligible to access short breaks funded services if they receive (or would be eligible if applied) for the middle or high rate care component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA).  Self-Assessment forms are available from Ashdown on request if you do not already receive DLA.

This service is supported by West Sussex County Council funding and other generous sponsors enabling these special days to generally be available at no extra cost to families other than the standard session fee.

'Ashdown club has been a life saver to me and my family. I know that without fail for at least 1 Saturday a month that my son is going to be being extremely well cared for and stimulated, not frowned upon for his own special habits and unique ways with such dedicated and friendly people.  Ashdown is like being a part of one big happy family, I simply don't want it to ever end.  I have been extremely blessed to have been a part of Ashdown.'  Lisa
