Time Out in Adur - respite day service for carers of people with dementia

Our Time Out in Adur service runs on Mondays and Tuesdays between 9.30 am and 3.30pm from the Waterside Inn in Shoreham, offering a much needed respite for local carers.

Our service provides a safe and caring environment for people with cognitive impairment or diagnosis of dementia.

The service provides fun with stimulating activities including music and reminiscence therapies, games and social chat over a cuppa. Customers are driven out and about on the minibus around the local area for lunch and an afternoon excursion.

Wendy Langley, Time Out in Adur Co-ordinator said

'We provide a door-to-door service which enables carers to have a couple of hours respite during the day to catch up with friends, their own appointments, perhaps shopping or just rest. We take their loved one out for a coffee in the morning whre we might have a quiz or play some games. It's very person-centred care and there is usually lots of laughter and fun. We try and make sure everyone is stimulated through conversations and activities and carers can be confident that their loved one has had a nice time.'

Peter has been using the service for a year and a half. He said

'This has really made a difference to my life. I live on my own so it's been great to have this support and I've been able to make good friendships too. I really look forward to it each week.'

The cost of the day is £26 and transport to and from home in Adur is £4.50.
