Linfield House, Wykeham Road, Worthing is a well-designed care home which provides both nursing and dementia care. The home has a purpose built 11-bed dementia suite and an experienced staff team led by Home Manager, Julie Greenhalf. The home has a ‘Good’ rating from the CQC in January 2017.
This quiet, well-furnished care home was designed for frail elderly residents some of whom require nursing care. It is tastefully decorated throughout with generous accommodation including spacious bedrooms, all with en-suite shower facilities and a range of lounges and dining rooms.
The home's accommodation is across five suites, each with a lounge and kitchenette area, for residents and relatives to make their own snacks and refreshments if they so wish.
The home has two dining rooms with picture windows that look out onto the gardens and from the upper dining room, Worthing’s Victoria Park. Residents tend to watch the world go by and the children playing from the comfort and warmth of their armchairs. There are lounges within each suite in addition to a spacious lounge on the ground floor and a themed lounge in the dementia suite.
There is a large, secluded patio garden adjacent to the park and a further well-laid out sensory garden adjacent to the dementia suite.
On the third floor, is a roof terrace with stunning views over Victoria Park and the Sussex Downs.
Each of the home’s 54 single bedrooms has en-suite bathrooms including level-access showers each equipped with supported bathing facilities.
The bedrooms are on three floors which are accessible by two lifts on either side of the central dining rooms.
Each bedroom is equipped with a telephone points, free broadband and access to satellite TV at the resident’s expense if requested.
Linfield’s highly skilled workforce is trained in dementia care and provide high-quality person-centred care for both residential and nursing clients 24 hours a day.
The management team has enhanced skills in mental health, general nursing and two members of staff have completed the ‘Six Steps Plus’ programme as End-of-Life Care Champions with St Barnabas Hospice.
The home has a fully-equipped hairdressing salon/beauty therapy room with their own therapist and hairdresser.
The home offers a wide range of activities for residents which vary from group activities to one-to-ones, spiritual support, and outings to the park as well as minibus trips.
Linfield residents benefit from regular gardening sessions organised by Breathing Spaces, a local garden therapy community interest company.
Residents have access to an NHS dentist, chiropodists and opticians.
Linfield’s catering team won Connect Catering’s Gold Award for Team of the Year in 2106, reflecting the high quality of the meals prepared for residents.
Freshly prepared and home cooked nutritionally balanced menus are developed with resident’s consultation, reflecting the seasonal changes. Frail menu and special diets are catered for, and nothing is too much trouble for the team who specialise in the most elaborately decorated birthday cakes.
On the ground floor of Linfield House is a well-designed, and safe, dementia suite where residents enjoy being part of a smaller household among staff experienced in dementia care.
The suite is spacious and light with colourful bedrooms along an L-shaped corridor which centres around a spacious but homely lounge and kitchen area where most of the residents dine and enjoy activities. There is a lovely bathroom, beautifully decorated to catch the attention of residents and encourage relaxation; a garden in which to walk and enjoy the fresh air and an old-fashioned tea-room to while away the hours with stimulating memorabilia and music.
