Convenience retailer chain, One Stop, has awarded local charity Guild Care a £1,000 grant for Super Scopers, a monthly group run for families of children with learning disabilities and additional physical needs.

The grant will be used to provide entertainment and trips for the group, which has been running for 14 years and currently supports 15 local families. Specifically, Super Scopers offers a safe and informal environment where people in similar situations can meet and share their experiences.

One Stop awarded the grant as part of their ‘Carriers for Causes’ scheme, the goal of which is to ‘benefit local communities – helping to improve lives and local places’. The scheme, run in conjunction with the charity Groundwork, is available to any community, charity, or not-for-profit group within two miles of a One Stop store. It is funded through the company’s 5p bag charge.

Super Scopers is organized by Guild Care’s Senior Community Liaison Officer, Jo McCaffrey. She said, “We couldn’t be more grateful for the grant. With the money we will be able to provide lots more fun for the group, like a recent donkey visit to our Birkdale Centre! Thank you very much to One Stop and Groundwork.”
