12th February

Congratulations to the hundreds of runners who took to the streets on Sunday 11th February 2018 for the Worthing Half Marathon which will help to raise funds towards Guild Care’s vital community services which support local people.

The crowds and volunteers were also out in force to cheer on the runners along the 13.1mile course on what a cold but sunny February day.

But it wasn’t just adult runners taking there was a mini mile race for the youngsters and a 3km fun run for those who couldn’t quite go the distance!

Well done to James Gibb who was the winner of the mini mile in a time of 6:18, the first girl home was Maria Salamanca in a time of 6:32.  Nicholas Summers took first place in the 3k run and congratulations to Paul Martelletti the overall winner of the half marathon. He completed the course in 1:09:36.

Warren Fabes, Guild Care Finance & Resources Director, was one of the competitors in what was only his second half marathon. He completed the course in a time of 2 hours and 19 minutes.

He said; “I ran my first half marathon at this event last year so I knew what to expect. The course was great, really flat and we were lucky to have such sunny weather although it was very cold and I was running on vapours for the last few kilometres!

“It was great to be part of an event like this which, as well as helping me to keep fit, is also raising money for our charity which provides vital life line services and support to the local Worthing community.”

We’d also like to thank all our wonderful volunteers who braved the wintery conditions and helped out at the water stops at 3.1 and 6.6 miles.

And well done to Claire Roberts who works in our Healthy Living Centre who was also running for Guild Care.
