Dear colleague,

With the onset of coronavirus, Guild Care like many charities saw services change, increased expenditure and reduced income. In summary, the impact of the pandemic meant that The Board of Trustees had to make difficult decisions and undertake a redundancy programme and restructure its Senior Leadership Team to cope with this new environment.

Despite these changes, it is now time to focus on our future, rebuilding our charity by adapting our services to continue to support the local community, as well as investing in increasing bed occupancy in our care homes and delivering a programme of continuous improvement.

To facilitate these changes, Guild Care has now appointed Alex Brooks-Johnson as interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Alex has been working with Guild Care for a year in several senior positions and brings over 20 years of voluntary and charity sector experience, including Chief Executive roles at both a carers and children’s charity where he helped shape and grow community-based services.

Covid-19 has highlighted how strong the community is in and around Worthing, and how much of a part of that community Guild Care is. We understand we have a responsibility to help older people, people living with dementia and children and adults with learning disabilities in whatever way we can, and Alex’s experience will help us to further build the links we have in the community to make that happen.

I would like to reassure everyone who benefits from, volunteers with or supports Guild Care services that these changes are in the very best interest of the charity and the people that we care for now and in the future with a key focus on increasing our CQC ratings across all our homes. Doing this will support increased income generation and enable us to continue to fund our much loved and needed charitable services which have been so severely affected by the pandemic.

Former CEO Suzanne Millard will take on the role of Managing Director of Regulated Services focusing on her passion for care homes and utilising the expertise she has displayed over the past 11 years as CEO.

If you have any further concerns or questions please contact Nicola Sampson, Head of Administration & Governance Services, by telephoning 01903 863111 or by emailing [email protected].

Yours sincerely,

Antonia Hopkins

Chair of The Board of Trustees
