As our country enters the second national lockdown, our priority to deliver quality care to those that need it remains unchanged.

Following the government’s latest announcement, we have implemented new measures to safely deliver services, fulfilling our duties to the local community amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

Our CEO, Alex Brooks-Johnson, said: “Our charity, like most organisations, has had to adapt the way that we provide care and support, and though it has been incredibly difficult, we are intent on thriving in these tough times.

“We are determined to continue to be there for our community when they need us, and our priority to deliver the very best and safest care, remains unchanged.”

Care homes

The first lockdown brought with it the difficult task of safely facilitating visits within our care homes. At Guild Care, residents’ wellbeing is a key priority and we believe that visits from loved ones are fundamental to this. Whilst we have been committed to facilitating visits, whether that be virtually or in person and following robust safety precautions, news of a second lockdown had us fearing we would have to close our doors to visitors.

We were pleased to learn that the new measures announced allowed visiting to continue within our care homes. This again requires the kind of rigorous safety measures we already had in place, such as one visitor per resident or two if from the same household, mandatory PPE and social distancing, and the use of a booking system. We will also test staff on a weekly basis and residents monthly, which enables us to accept new residents.

Our residents’ safety is of paramount importance, which is why we must continue this necessary action to protect them.

Learning disability day services

Our charity’s learning disability day services for children and adults can continue running at a reduced capacity, with guidance suggesting care and support should continue to be given in the least restrictive way possible. This will allow members to receive the support they rely upon and provide carers with much-needed respite.

Home care and related services

Our Home Care service can and will run as normal, providing both domestic and personal care to clients. Our other community services, including Home from Hospital, will continue to operate over the phone and only require face-to-face visits for essential shopping deliveries.

Dementia services

Our dementia services will now operate over the phone to best care for our vulnerable members, offering telephone support calls to ensure members and their carers feel supported through this difficult period.
