9th September 2019

Over 100 pooches of all shapes and sizes took part in Guild Care’s Dog Show & Fun Day on Sunday 8th September at Broadwater Green, breaking the annual event’s record.

The event, run in partnership with Paws Training and sponsored by Northdale Veterinary Practice, gave owners the chance to enter their canines into an array of dog show categories and games. There was also plenty of fun for non-owners, with a bouncy castle, face painting, craft market, food and drink stalls, and, of course, lots of dogs to admire.

The dogs competed across 11 show categories and an assortment of fun games, including the famously difficult ‘Tables of Temptation’. In total there were over 300 entrees. The ‘Best Crossbreed’ was the most popular category with an impressive 46 dogs taking part.

Notable winners included Mishka, an eight-year-old Hungarian Viszla, who took home the ‘Best in Show’ crown; Missy and her handler Keira, who together won ‘Young Handler’; and Archie the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, who won the fancy dress category disguised as a ‘sheep dog’. Paws Training instructor Julie awarded the top-five placing competitors in each category with rosettes and goody bags, and everyone who placed first also took home a trophy.

Guild Care’s Events and Community Officer, Juliet Hinton-Smith, said: “We’re so thankful to Paws Training, Northdale Veterinary Practice, and to all of the stall holders and volunteers which made this year’s Dog Show & Fun Day such a success! All of the money raised from the show will be used to help fund our vital local services for children and adults dealing with the daily challenge of a disability, loss of independence, or dementia.”
