The Worthing and District Society of Model Engineers has raised £1,955 for Guild Care through its annual charity day.

The event took place on Sunday 8^th September at Field Place, Durrington. Dozens of families enjoyed the society’s real miniature steam locomotives and diesel electric trains which carried passengers along a quarter of a mile circular track.

This is the second year in a row that the Worthing and District Society of Model Engineers has donated their charity day fundraising to Guild Care. Last year the society raised £1,913, which was given to the charity’s specialist dementia care home, Haviland House. This year the society has requested for their money to be put towards Guild Care’s dementia services.

The society, which is based at Field Place Miniature Railway, Durrington, opens from spring to autumn. Members hold public running days every other Sunday where you are invited to come along and enjoy the miniature trains.

Debbie Dollner, Guild Care’s Chief Operating Officer, accepted the money on behalf of the charity last week. She said: “Thank you so much to the Worthing and District Society of Model Engineers. We truly couldn’t be more grateful and are honored to be have been chosen to receive this support for a second year.

Through the money they have raised we are able to support the most vulnerable members of our community, providing invaluable local services for children and adults dealing with the daily challenge of a disability, dementia, loss of independence, loneliness or isolation.”
