A Blue Plaque has been unveiled in honour of Ethel Methold MBE, who was the driving force behind Worthing Council of Social Service, which was established in 1933 and is now known as Guild Care.

Ethel, or Effie as she was known, was a pioneer in healthcare before the NHS.

Our CEO Alex Brooks-Johnson, joined with Susan Belton from Worthing Society and historian Chris Hare, to see Worthing Mayor, Councillor Ferdousi Henna Chowdhury, unveil the Blue Plaque at 11 Liverpool Terrace – the first executive office of WCSS.

Guild Care’s headquarters in North Street, Methold House, are named after Ethel Methold.
