Expansion of day centres

  • It was the era of the day centre with Ferring opening in October 1980 and Rustington in December 1980 in addition to the East Worthing Day Centre which had opened in 1978.
  • We donated £45,000 to the Clifton Court sheltered housing project so that a day centre could be incorporated when it opened in 1984.
  • A new recreation room was added at Methold House and opened by HRH Princess Alexandra in 1983.
  • In 1983 we celebrated our 50th anniversary and recognised that none of our considerable achievements could have been attained without the many years of devoted service given by an ever growing team of volunteers – a group of people on whom Guild Care still depends greatly today.

Opening of Lovett and Caer Gwent

  • In 1987 the Mayor of Worthing, Councillor Parkin, officially opened the Lovett Court Day Centre for older people, named after Lance Corporal Christopher Lovett, a young local man who lost his life serving in the Falklands conflict.
  • A year later, in 1988, the new Caer Gwent home, in Downview Road, was opened by the Duke of Richmond and Gordon.
