Creating Connections is a warm and welcoming service for people aged 65 and over living in Worthing. The service aims to support people to remain independent in their own homes and reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation, which can have a significant impact on people’s health and wellbeing.

We run a number of activities (many of which are free) for people to enjoy, make new friends and socialise. For those who are less mobile, we can provide transport to our sessions. Our activities aim to include something to interest everyone:

  • Weekly face-to-face group activities, such as seated exercise, Music & Movement, crafts, quizzes, bingo, lunch clubs and book clubs, a mutual support group for those experiencing bereavement, swimming, table tennis, Singing for Fun and much more
  • All the above sessions are FREE unless otherwise indicated. Tea/Coffee/Biscuits is £1.
  • Monthly timetable sent out to registered members to book onto sessions.
  • One-to-one ‘outcomes based befriending’ supported by a matched volunteer, either via the phone, in the community, or in people’s homes. This will be for 12 weeks support initially to help focus on a specific personalised aim/goal - such as building confidence with going shopping/walks/use public transport alone or to join social/activity groups.
  • Monthly social events, including Sunday lunch, Marine Gardens Coffee, and a Cake and Chat Club.

Cost of transport is £8.00 for a return journey / a single journey £4.00 (only available in Worthing). Groups are currently being held at The Bradbury Centre, Methold House (Annexe), and The Lovett Hub

Please note this is an independent service and anyone attending must be independent as we are unable to provide any extra support with personal care or mobilisation (with or without mobility equipment)

Wheelchair users are welcomed but must be able to self-propel if using a manual wheelchair & be able to transfer themselves independently.

This service is made possible by funding from West Sussex County Council and fundraised income.

Befriending service

Creating Connections also offers befriending services for people who find it difficult to leave their homes to socialise and meet people. We offer telephone befriending, and a home visiting service with regular visits by a volunteer, to provide companionship and friendship.

We also offer short term, goal-based befriending to provide more 1:1 support to people. This is available to people who have lost confidence after a fall or have poor mobility and need help to socialise, make friends, and engage with their local community.

If you would like to register your interest, please contact our Creating Connections Team. You can email [email protected] or call 01903 528635

Want to volunteer?

Creating Connections is a volunteer led service and we need a range of people who are willing to share their time and their talents in one of the following ways:

Volunteer Driver – driving a minibus to pick up a small group of older people from their homes, to bring to a Creating Connections Club, when they are unable to access public transport.

Meet and Greeter – Welcoming people, taking part in group activity sessions, and serving refreshments.

Small Group Leaders – Co-ordinating an activity session and enabling people to feel at home and engage with their chosen activities. For example, flower arranging, photography, cake decorating, local history etc.

Volunteer Befrienders – give an hour of your time once a week to visit a lonely older person to provide companionship and nurture a mutually rewarding friendship.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact our Volunteer Team via our online form.
