24th August 2021

For the second year in a row a local family has completed a sponsored 10 mile walk from Littlehampton Pier to Worthing Pier in aid of our Haviland House care home.

Thus far the Brennan family has raised £1,145 in sponsorship for this year’s pier to pier walk, which took place on Sunday 15th August. This already puts the total ahead of the impressive £1,075 raised last year.

Last year’s funds were put towards wellbeing at Haviland House where mother and grandmother of the Brennans, Joyce Guppy, lives. For example, some of this money went towards purchasing iPads used to connect families to their loved ones during Covid. This year’s money will also be put towards wellbeing at Haviland.

Joyce’s daughter, Kim, said, “Haviland House is a lovely, warm, friendly home with wonderful staff caring for those with dementia. Our mum and nan, who is living with dementia, went to live at Haviland, settled well into the Haviland family, and made it her home.

“This year has again been very difficult with Covid and Covid restrictions for us all, especially for charity fundraising. It made us think, ‘let’s arrange another sponsored walk ‘Pier to Pier MK 2’ for the wellbeing of all at Haviland House again.’ It’s such a worthy cause.

“Now we would like to say an enormous thank you to all our sponsors for their generosity.”

Amanda Tucker, Guild Care’s Director of Fundraising, said, “Our charity really can’t thank the Brennan family enough for this amazing, impressive donation. The mental health and wellbeing of the people we care for at Haviland House is so important, and such funds will help us to further enrich what the home offers its residents. Thank you.”
